Poster Final

schickmovieF_1, originally uploaded by J to the D.

So, max sent me the final for the poster. It looks fantastic. The Lens Flare effect and some smoothing was added. You can compare to the one I posted if you wish. There is a color shift from cool to warm and a lot of the pencil texture was smoothed over digitally, I'd imagine. Of course we were going to a Drew Struzan look and he does have a lot of pencil work in every poster that he does. If I would have had a decent scanner I could have done that for them instead of them paying someone else to do it. The nature of the illustration is intact so that is what matters. I had messed up on the face of one of the girls so that retouching was a must.
I love the lettering treatment that was chosen as it really fits the overall feel. I had done a chrome lettering (a quick mock up) and i think it didn't really fit it over all. Think Heavy Metal and that was what I was going for. The gold (warm color) aspect was a great choice for this.

I think some deep psychological evidence can be extracted from this doodle I drew a while ago.

I did a bunch of football themed illustrations on Monday right on the heels of being up all night illustrating for a company in Atlanta. That was a rough day! Surprisingly I was up feeling brighter and more alert than I thought. I went to bed at 6:30 am and woke up to a cell phone alarm I had set so i could check the email to see if the client had any changes.
My other client called to see where I was (I wasn't aware that I was expected....ooops) After I told her I'd worked til 6AM that morning, she just figured working at home would be a better idea than me stumbling into work.

The Birds

All I can remember is the chirping. The sounds of so many little birds chirping all at once. They came from out of nowhere it seemed and collected in the trees and on my roof. It was like NYC for birds. It's a good thing that I was not standing outside at the time or else it would have been less cool.

handshake

In the corporate world. I'm doing illustration for a company that does really incredible design. They try to break that horrible typical financial design that is so prevalent today.
I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to work these past few months there.

Photoshop work

IMG_1687, originally uploaded by J to the D.

I quickly patched the bottom part of this photo so that the guy wasn't cut off at the feet. Mind you, the operative word is "quickly" as I have lots of stuff to do these days. I really liked this moment in all the hubbub of Chinatown, this man was taking some time to sit out in the middle of the sidewalk, not a all concerned that people might step on his cool trainers. He didn't catch me taking the picture but in order to do so, I had to cut off his feet and try to fake them back in later on.
