Mermaids so far

This was taken awhile ago when it was considered done and already out the door. however, being I am who I am, I needed to shape some things, fill in the holes, etc. I've been painting and changing and making it better so that my client will be happy with it once he gets it in the mail. I've just bought the stuff to pack it up in...I hope I can stop to a point where I'm not ruining the painting. I'll have to shoot it once again in order to show the "noodling" progress from not having left it alon e once it was considered done.

Icons!

Like I had written on my website, these represent just a few of the icons I get done in a day ( an eight hour day) Normally, I'll get from seven to eight done and have maybe, a few different versions of one for them to pick from just in case they didn' like the one I supplied. I like to leave them with plenty of options. Sometimes, I'm able to scan them in if I have the wherewithall to do so. A lot of times, the search for decent reference to draw from takes a lot of time. While Ill "take a break" meaning "look for reference" from drawing, it's nice to be able to switch back and forth from drawing to the computer. It's a welcome change of pace as I don't think to take breaks. I think I will start: Even though I am not a smoker, I may need to take the occasional break just to loosen up a bit.

White House

Alright, so along with a lot of other government icons I was drawing for Grant Thornton, this was a big one. It was a bit tricky to simplify this but also make it look good. I like the way it turned out as it was tricky, also, to find the best reference, lighting, etc for the sketch itself. I think looking for reference is the most part of doing the work that I do there. I love when there is already clean clear in focus reference ready and at hand for me to draw from. A certain level of panic will strike when I have to actually hunt down a good enough image to draw from. I guess there are always stressful moments that you can't avoid.

Part of storyboards for a game

This was done so long ago and I'm just now getting to clean it up and actually post it. It was the starting point for a game for little kids. The point was to create different environments for the game to go through. There was a bike that was going to be attached to the game so the more you pedal, the faster you'd go through the environment. The bike redesign, i also did and I think it's somewhere on my site. I haven't been to the McDonalds where this all is to see if everything got installed and all that. It's been awhile and I hardly ever get to the area (way east and north of Chicago) so this is why things take longer than expected. At least my work is done and I got paid.

Modified Capital Building

Modified Capital Building, originally uploaded by jodydraws.

This editorial was a lot of work. The general idea was to have vignettes that were visible enough to be seen in the windows of the capital building. In order to do that we had to modify the windows greatly. I think it took me the whole day to complete this. The vignettes were Merger's and Acquisitions, CEO payoffs, Partnership, etc..
I have to take them from the original file in order to post them but I was happy with the way they turned out. Instead of being simple silhouettes, I would draw them out and then shade them a bit so that you could sort of see the detail. It's more time consuming than you'd think.

Birds

IMG_4485, originally uploaded by jodydraws.

While out cycling, I caught this little glimpse of a tiny bog in our neighborhood. You can't really see it unless you're up on a bike like I was. There's a busy road behind me where no one can really see this either. If I had a better lens you can really see what was going on. I had to zoom in and the white on the birds was just too blurred. Oh well, maybe someday I'll get a pro digital camera.

Illustration fun

I had altered this one as far as the silhouettes went. I had them just really dark and we decided to go with a different effect. I think it works nicely!
